2011 Subaru Liberty

The 2012 Subaru Liberty is expected to be available for sale in early 2012.

While the exact specifications of the 2012 Liberty remain tight lipped there are some rumours/speculation about the possible changes and features to be introduced with the 2012 model. Lets look at these.

Subaru Liberty Diesel

With the EE20 diesel engine available in the Subaru Outback and Forester models in Australia and also in Subaru Legacy models outside Australia, the addition of a diesel Subaru Liberty will open an additional market for those looking for a more economical way to cart the kids around.

FB engine

The new generation petrol FB series engine has already been released in the 2011 Subaru Forester and would likely be the engine of choice for the 2012 Liberty. The 2.5 litre FB25 engine in the Forester produces 126kW and 235Nm of torque while also being more efficient than the outgoing EJ25. This is owing to an all new block and head with variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust valves as well as extra changes like a smaller bore. The timing belt has been replaced by a timing chain which has allowed better engine design to allow the smaller bore. There should also be benefits with the chain offering a longer life than a belt.
